There are over 1,000 casinos worldwide and they generate about $231 billion in revenue. A casino is often a focal point for a city, as it is the case for Las Vegas, which has the largest number of casinos in America. The other major gambling destinations are Atlantic City, New Jersey and Chicago.
In addition to its dazzling exterior, the Grand Lisboa hotel/casino in Macau is East Asia’s version of Las Vegas. This massive casino is crowned with the world’s biggest LED dome, which houses more than a million lights. Its interior lives up to this appearance of decadence, with 800 gaming tables and slot machines spread across several large, lavishly decorated floors.
The Monte Carlo Casino is a famous European casino located in Monaco, which has been featured in numerous books and movies, including the Ben Mezrich book Busting Vegas. It has also been portrayed in various James Bond films.
Interestingly, although the United States has many casinos, it doesn’t have the world’s biggest. This honor goes to Ledyard, Connecticut’s Foxwoods Resort Casino, which is owned by the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation and is home to 4.7 million square feet of gambling space. This includes six separate casinos, 380 different game types, one of the world’s largest bingo halls and a two-story arcade.
