The highest card in a hand wins. When there is a tie, the high card will break it. For example, if two people have four of a kind, the high card will win the tie.

For a poker game with seven or more players, there should be at least 200 chips available. Players should have an ante and a blind. The ante is a mandatory bet and is usually a small amount. Typically, it is $1 or $5.

Each player can check, fold, or raise. When a player checks, he or she can choose to raise the bet raised by another player. If a player folds, he or she will lose any chips in the pot. If a player raises, the player may count the chips he or she raised as part of the pot chips required for a call.

In games with fewer than five cards, the player who is the first to act is usually the one who makes the first bet. This is a forced bet, and is used to give the players something to chase.
