But when you get to the higher stakes, it becomes a game of psychology and skill. It\u2019s also a very social game where you can make some of the best friends in your life.<\/p>\n<p>The first step is to place an initial amount of money in the pot before the cards are dealt. This is called the ante. The players then have the option to call, raise or fold their hand. If they decide to stay in the hand, three more cards are then dealt face up on the table called the flop which everyone can use. After the flop another round of betting takes place.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the hands that can win in poker are a royal flush, four of a kind, straight, and three of a kind. The highest hand is a royal flush, followed by a straight flush and then a full house. The other hands are pairs, two pair, three of a kind, and one pair.<\/p>\n<p>The key to winning is to develop quick instincts and be analytical. Practice with a group of people who know how to play to build your skills. Observe other experienced players and analyze how they react to certain situations to learn how to read them quickly. Avoid cookie-cutter advice like \u201calways 3bet x hands\u201d and try to develop your own quick instincts.
